Dalton plans new manufacturing facility

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) – Engineered Floors has announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Dalton.

It’s the latest sign that the so-called Carpet Capitol of the world is making a comeback.

Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Rob Bradham says, “The floor covering industry is growing about 3.5% to 4% year over year.”

With a new carpet tile manufacturing plant being built by Engineered Floors, local analysts say job growth is on the horizon.

“Thankfully, that situation is reversing and we’re on a nice upward trend. We’re seeing a lot of growth in the carpet industry even though it’s mature,” notes Dalton State Professor Marilyn Helms.

She says Dalton is ideal for manufacturing, because of it’s access to the I-75 corridor, the new inland port in Murray County, and our two major railways.

Bradham says talent is one of the top drivers for a large scale business to invest in Dalton.

He says, “In the last 18 months, there has been a lot of organic growth, particularly downtown. We’ve had a number of retail establishments and restaurants open down town. We’re excited about that as our manufacturing base in Dalton continues to grow. We’re seeing that translate into retail and restaurants downtown.”

Helms says to keep up with job demands, Dalton State has created a new degree program in logistics and supply chain management.

Students can enroll for that next fall.
