Dalton Soccer Still in Running For Another State Title Despite First Loss Since 2012

Dalton, GA-(WDEF) On Friday night, the Dalton soccer team suffered their first loss since 2012. Despite the setback, the Catamounts are still in the hunt for another impressive feat. They’ll try to collect their fourth consecutive state championship.
When you rip off 80 games without a loss, it’s not surprising you’re ranked number one in the nation. Dalton earned that nod from Maxpreps.
Said head coach Matt Cheaves-“I like it. It’s a very nice recognition. Tells us a lot of people have given us some respect. It’s not something we set out to do, but it’s nice to be recognized in that regard.”
Reporter-“Still you guys have that ranking. That’s got to make you feel pretty special.”
Said player Churrui Huitanda-“Feels great saying you play for the number one team in the nation.”
So how have the Catamounts maintained that string of success?
Said senior Justen Macias-“Yes, we have great talent on the team, and everyone pushes themselves to try and get the best out of everyone.”
Added Huitanda-“People say practice makes perfect, but it doesn’t. Perfect practice makes perfect. So every practice, we go try perfect. It works out in the games.”
Reporter-“Is soccer cool at Dalton now because of what these guys have been able to do?”
Said Cheaves-“I would say it was always cool. We have great fan turnout. The student body and members of the community love to come out and cheer for our team. We’ve got really good crowds and good gates for soccer.”
Dalton has won three consecutive state crowns, and Macias says he wouldn’t mind getting another championship ring this spring.
Reporter-“You’ve got three state rings?”
Said Macias-“Yes I do.”
Reporter-“What do you do with them?”
Said Macias-“Wear one everyday.”
Reporter-“Do you ever wear all three at once, or do you keep it fresh and wear a new one each day?”
Said Macias-“I wear all three on game day, and every other day I just wear one.”
