Dalton World AIDS Day
The event is about reducing new infections, increasing awareness, decreasing prejudice, and improving healthcare access.
More than 1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV infection, but about 15-percent don’t know it.
Dalton citizens gathered to show support for people with the virus Monday.
Dalton HIV Clinic Medical Director Dr. Mark Elam says, "It’s mainly to increase awareness and not just here in Dalton or in the United States, but really globally because it’s still a global pandemic. We’ve still got tens of millions of people that are still infected with HIV and over a million people in the United States are infected with HIV, about a quarter of whom don’t know that they’re infected."
Dalton residents also remembered those who have died from the virus.
