Dawgs and Cats Collide in SEC Showdown Between the Hedges
It’s 6-0 Kentucky vs 6-0 Georgia Saturday in Athens.
It’s the first time two SEC East teams have met with 6-0 or better records.
And the Dawgs carry their brand new number one ranking into the division showdown.
When you haven’t been ranked number one in awhile, everyone wants to know hey, what’s it like, much to the annoyance of Kirby Smart.
Said Smart:”It’s just not really relevant. You guys need a story. Write it all you want. It has no relevance what-so-ever for us. It’s all about how we practice and what we do. You worry about the psyche of guys reading it or looking at it like we’ve discussed. You’ve got to do a good job of talking to your guys and keeping them grounded. That’s part of what we’ve been working on for ten months around here.”
Said Georgia tight end John Fitzpatrick:”I think we’re really not worried about the rankings or the outside noise. We’re still focused on what we can accomplish this season. Right now that’s winning this next game against Kentucky.”
Dawgs are focused on a Kentucky team that’s coming off a 42-21 win over LSU.
Said Smart:”They’ve always been one of the most physical games, if not the most physical game we’ve played in. I don’t think the rest of the world understands the physicality with which their offensive line has played with. Their run game.”
Still no word if J-T Daniels will be back at quarterback, but the Dawgs haven’t missed a beat with Stetson Bennett. Last week he was 14 of 21 for 231 yards and two touchdowns.
Said Smart:”I don’t think the team has ever lacked confidence in Stetson. There’s no like question mark there. To each his own. Everybody has his own opinion of what Stetson is or isn’t. Within this team is a belief that’s Stetson’s a really good football player, and he’s a winner.”
And since it’s a showdown between the hedges with Kentucky, Smart wants Dawgs fans to show out.
Said Smart:”You can’t be apathetic as a fan and think that oh, we’re Georgia. That’s not the case. This is a high, high quality football team. We need the extra advantage of playing at home.”
