Deadly officer involved shooting in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF)- Cleveland Police Officers were involved in an officer involved shooting this afternoon.

The T.B.I. is investigating the incident that happened near Blythe Ferry Road and Cottage Stone Lane.

Officials say that Cleveland police received a report that Matthew James Riggs was threatening to harm himself and had a weapon.

Officers saw Riggs’ car and pulled him over.

Officials say that at some point officers heard a gunshot and one of them fired their gun.

Riggs was transported to the hospital where he later died.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

No officers were injured during the incident.
