Dekalb AL Sheriff Arming Officers On & Off Duty

Ft. Payne AL (WDEF) – DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris is arming his deputies, even when they are on their own time.

He has purchased 55 Glock 43 pistols for his officers to conceal on their persons when off duty.

The sheriff believes that with mass shootings, ISIS and the drug trade, both law enforcement and citizens need to be prepared.

The guns will remain property of the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Harris adds “The cost for the guns and ammo will be between $22,000 and $25,000. We are still taking donations to help us pay for them and all donations are 100% tax deductible.
