Democratic Senate Leader is Stepping Down

Washington, D.C. (WDEF) – The combative leader of Democrats in the U.S. Senate is ending his political run.

Sen. Harry Reid from Nevada says he will not seek re-election next year.

The announcement ends a three decade career in Congress.

The 75 year old Senator suffered serious eye and facial injuries during a workout accident at his home in January.

But he says that didn’t play a role in his decision.

And he also dismisses the idea that losing control of the Senate to Republicans is the cause either.

He simply says “I want to be able to go out at the top of my game."
