Deputies Bust Marijuana Grow House in Murphy, NC

Murphy, NC (WDEF) — A fight with a relative landed a Murphy, North Carolina man in jail.

But not for the fight.

Cherokee County deputies were called to a home on Maple Lane for a domestic dispute.

But when they arrived, they found 46-year old Charles Richard Koogler, Jr. leaving the scene in a pickup.

In the back of that pickup was some recently harvested marijuana.

When they searched the house, they found evidence of a grow operation.

So in addition to the original Assault on a Female charge, Koogler faces multiple drug manufacturing charges.

Sheriff Derrick Palmer says “ I want to compliment the members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office on their team work in this arrest. This was a very sophisticated operation and evidently Koogler was pretty prolific at it considering the size of the seizure we can easily say that we confiscated over $150,000.00 worth of illegal drugs that won’t make it to the streets. As we continue to investigate this case we are anticipating additional arrests.”
