Dog Killed After Eating Neighbor’s Chickens

Summerville, GA(WDEF)-Summerville resident Corey Allen Lanye has been charged with animal cruelty under a city ordinanceImg 5483 after allegedly shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog.

According to the Smith family, their dog Roman got loose from their property after his shock collar stopped working.

Josh Smith, dog owner, described the scene:
“At first, I didn’t really realize what was going on. He told me you’re dog is killing my chickens, now I’m going to put your dog down. By the time I got outside, it had already happened.”

The family is now seeking justice as they cope with the heartbreaking loss of their pet.
“I’m not interested in any type of apology,” Smith said. “The damage is done. At this point, I’d rather see justice.”

Allen was originally charged under a city ordinance for animal cruelty. The Summerville Police Department will now turn over the investigation to the local district attorney’s office to determine whether the case should be elevated to a felony.

Summerville Police Chief Brian Ozment explained, “We’ve submitted all statements and video evidence to the district attorney to determine if the case should move from municipal court to superior court to ensure justice is served.”

The Smith family continues to mourn Roman, a dog remembered for his playful and loving nature, while awaiting the outcome of the legal process.
