Dozens Gather with hopes of Saving Local Landmark

Dozens of people gathered at Lincoln park in Chattanooga in hopes of finding a way to save the historic location…

Lincoln Park was once an African American park where baseball legends like Satchel Page, Willy Mays and Jackie Robinson all played.
The Park is owned by Erlanger Hospital and there are plans for a road to cut through what is left of the park.
Many hope to find a way to save, and preserve the park.

Eric Akins of the Coalition to Preserve Citico Lincoln Park said “We are standing at this place because of the Native American links, because of the African American heritage. It is historically significant and it is culturally, we identify with a culture and so we have to do all that we can to preserve and to promote and protect this park as much as we can.”

There is near unanimous consent that the location is a historically significant and culturally relevant site.
