Drivers Education Program Suspended

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Drivers Education program provided by the City of Chattanooga is officially suspended indefinitely.

HB1096, HB1372, SB1128 are the laws that were enacted earlier this year by the Tennessee State Legislature that made it mandatory that most unmanned speed enforcement cameras no longer be used in the state.Tennessee-Lawmakers-Ban-Speeding-Cameras.jpg

Losing the cameras cut the funding for the Driver’s Education Program.

The program was only possible through the Photo Enforcement Ordinance which helps fund all traffic safety related programs.

Approximately 3,000 Chattanoogans have completed the program provided by the City of Chattanooga since its inception in 2009.

Effective immediately, no new courses for the Chattanooga Drivers Education Program will be scheduled until further notice.

Efforts will be made to identify new revenue sources so that this traffic safety program can resume.
