Dunlap Church offering warming station for the valley

DUNLAP, Tennessee (WDEF) – The Dunlap Church of God is opening its doors to people who need a warm meal and shelter from the cold.

Today volunteers are serving soup, cornbread, sandwiches, desserts and coffee to those in need.

Organizers encourage people who need a place to get warm to stop by at the church on Rankin Avenue.

The pastor says he was contacted about opening a warming center.

He says this is a great way to reach out to the community and help those in need.

Pastor Brandon Gates told us “We just come up with the idea that we could serve food and give them a warm place and just give them something to drink and just see what we could help out with people when its cold and with the elements outside.”

The pastor says they decided to extend their hours for the event.

People can get food until eight central time.
