Early voting underway for Chattanooga CIty Mayor and City Council
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee- Early voting for Chattanooga municipal elections is officially underway.
Early voting began earlier Wednesday and will run until February 25th.
The election is for City Mayor and City Council Districts 1 through 9 and candidates are trying to make that final push.
“Man today its history I really believe that this is history right now,” said Terran ‘T-Ran’ Gilbert.
Voters will be choosing between 15 mayoral candidates.
So candidates are trying to get that last push for undecided voters outside the polls. Candidates families are also involved.
“We really just wanna make sure we’re out in front of the voters. That were talking about issues that are important to the city. They were making sure that everybody is confident and excited about this next election coming up,” said Kelly.
Some family members are bursting with confidence about the mayor election.
“My dad will be the first African-American in the history of Chattanooga Tennessee to become mayor and I’m excited and I’m thankful that my dad decide after 12 years being a city councilman to say hey I want to do more beyond my district,” said Gilbert.
Other candidates are using volunteers to get the word out outside the polls.
“We know that it’s easy to not vote early and election day comes around and something happens so we are just encouraging everybody to get out and vote,” said volunteer for Kim White, Jayme Holder.
“Some people can’t get off early so I feel when I early vote I’m listening the crowd. Even when it’s a big boat I can remember the last one people were way down here on the road,” said early voter Steven Bolin.
