East Ridge looks to provide holiday joy to pets, families

Adoption fees for dogs, cats to be waived entirely during December 2022

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (WDEF) — For anyone looking to adopt a furry friend this holiday season, the city of East Ridge is making it much easier.

Throughout the month of December, adoption fees are being waived entirely.

The local shelter has been at full capacity since May and hopes the animals inside can find a new home for Christmas.

East Ridge Animal Control Officer Caroline Smith says a new animal in the family benefits both the pet and its owners.

For me, personally, having an animal definitely brings you happiness and they lessen anxiety,” Smith said. “It’s just always nice to have a friend that is there and can just keep you company.”

Smith also says some animals at the shelter have been there for more than 100 days.

Adoption fees in the city are typically $75 for dogs with a $10 registration fee, while cats are $35.

But this month, they’re free to welcome to the family.
