East Ridge replacement playground

EAST RIDGE, Tennessee (WDEF)-Kids have a new place to play in East Ridge after the old wooden playground needed to be taken down.

Back in 1994, the original wooden playground stood for kids to play.

Now years later in the same spot a new metal and plastic playground stands in its place.

The playground connects both with the old and new as history is preserved through a time capsule placed when the original playground was built.

There are also kids’ handprints from the old structure now used as part of the new playground parameter.

Plus kids who grew up playing in the playground are now taking their kids to the park.

“You’re seeing the people that were involved originally there now bringing not (just) their kids but their grandkids. It is amazing to see that and they spoke to me before this about how they’re bringing their grandkids and their loving it. It’s a great effort, we’re really excited and pleased to be able to do this,” said Brian Williams.

You can find out more of the history and meaning of this playing ground on Monday with news 12s more to the story series.
