East Tennessee’s 278th ACR Guard unit will deploy to Poland

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) An East Tennessee National Guard Unit with members in our area will deploy units to Europe this summer.

The 278th Armored Calvary Regiment is based in Knoxville.

Major General Max Haston announced on Wednesday that they will join the first of two task forces in support of NATO’s enhanced forward presence.

Before that, they will get advanced training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California in the Mojave Desert.

“In support of the United States commitment to European security and deterrence, each task force is comprised of over 850 Soldiers based at armories across the state and will form battalion sized battle groups, in country, with additional personnel supplied by multinational Allies during the nine month rotations.”
