Family of man hit and killed by car speaks out

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Recently in the Chattanooga area, there have been several cases of pedestrians being hit and killed by cars. The family of a victim on Highway 153 is speaking out

Susan Dover played with her niece and nephew during this difficult time. She recently lost her brother. The kids will now grow up without their father.

“He was a great guy. You would not find anyone that would say anything bad about him,” Dover said.

Dover says her brother, Jeff Harris, had a good sense of humor and was kind.

“He was the funniest guy, the center of attention when he walked into a room. Everyone knew him. He did not know a stranger. Quick witted, and he would give you the shirt off of his back. He would go without, before you would,” Dover said.

His family says he was last seen on July 26. Two days later police found his body near Highway 153 and Shallowford Road, on a grassy median, which was out of view from passing cars.

Investigators determined he was possibly hit by a car at that location. They are looking into the case, but so far no driver has been named.

“To get news like that, it was pretty devastating. You do not expect to get a phone call like that. Someone has hit him, we don’t know who, we don’t know why he was where he was at. We have no idea,” Dover said.

Right now his family wants closure. They are hoping people with answers come forward.

“We urge, if anyone has any information, to please contact the police,” Dover said.

Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department say they encourage any witnesses or others who may have information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525 or submit a tip using the Chattanooga PD Mobile App.
