Fight at Silverdale Jail

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Corecivic says the unit involved in the incident is on lockdown.

The inmates in that unit will remain in their cells with “limited, escorted movement until further notice.”

They did confirm that some inmates were transported off site for medical treatment, but they have been returned to the facility.

Nikole Kanavos says, “the Facility is working to ensure the safest environment exists prior to removing the unit lockdown and will be working with Hamilton County Sherriff’s department with the continued investigation.”

 


Late Saturday evening, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a fight that occurred at the Silverdale Detention Center.

According to CoreCivic PIO, Nicole Kanavos, Silverdale went on lockdown following an inmate-on-inmate altercation in one of the housing units. All inmates were confined to their cells with escorted movement only.

The altercation, which took place at approximately 9:00pm, resulted in non-life threatening injuries to three inmates, of which two were transported off-site for further treatment.

There were no injuries to staff.

The Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond and Chief Deputy Allen Branum, along with members of the Command and Corrections Division, were briefed of the situation. Officials were on-site to further investigate the incident.
