Fire breaks out at McKee Foods, forces evacuation of Plant 2
Collegedale, TN (WDEF) – A fire broke out Saturday night at the home of Little Debbie Snacks, McKee Foods.
Amy Maxwell with Hamilton County E-M-A tells us the fire broke out around 6:45pm Saturday evening in Plant 2.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw flames 15 feet high.
Fire officials say a propane mixer unit used for baking malfunctioned and caught fire.
Firefighters had to work quickly because three 20,000 gallon propane tanks were close to the fire.
All of the employees at plant two had to be evacuated.
The fire caused about $15,000 in damages.
No one was injured in the fire.
Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department was first to respond. Officials then requested a mutual aid response for additional units to stage at their Station 1 for additional emergency calls.
Those fire departments included the Cleveland Fire Department and Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department.
Hamilton County EMS was also on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters.
UPDATE: McKee Foods official says the plant is back up running as normal now.
