Fire Destroys old Half Note Lounge on M L K Boulevard
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A city building inspector will examine the remains of an MLK Boulevard icon on Friday.
The building that once housed the Half Note Lounge burned overnight.
The fire began around 1 AM at the intersection of MLK and Douglas Street.
The two alarm blaze was very close to the UTC student housing at Douglas Heights.
Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner told us “There were some initial reports that smoke might be getting into the Douglas Heights building so the battalion chief basically had Chattanooga police check on the building and asked them to close off the vents to prevent smoke from this fire from getting into that building.”
They were able to contain the blaze to the one vacant building.
But officials are concerned about a “bulge” in the wall that could be a sign of a future collapse.
That is why the building inspector has been called in.
