Firefighters Respond To “Confined Space Rescue”

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga firefighters can do more than just put out the flames. This afternoon they did what’s called a “confined space rescue”.

The fire department was dispatched by 9-1-1 when they got a report of a missing man Cummings Highway near Kelly’s Ferry Road.

A family member said she thought the man may be trapped in a drainage pipe.

Captain David Thompson stated, “After we got a couple of other rescue companies on the scene, we removed a grate .. Started our uh entry process, paper work and getting all of our equipment ready he was able to come out to us to this drainage area right over here to the side . We were able to get him out rather quickly.”

The rescued man was taken to a hospital for a checkup.

The residents say they believe he was trying to rescue a pet.
