Firefighters say East Brainerd blaze should remind us of space heater rules
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga firefighters say an incident in East Brainerd Thursday night should be a reminder to us all.
They responded to a quadplex fire on Rosebrook Drive off of Igou Gap Road around 9PM.
They eventually found heavy smoke and fire in the living room of one of the units.
They determined the fire was started by an electrical malfunction when a brand new heater was plugged into an extension cord.
The cord overheated.
No one was hurt in the fire.
But fire officials remind us not to plug space heaters into extension cords.
They should be plugged directly into the wall socket.
Plus keep the area around the heater clear of burnable items for three feet.
