First child dies from COVID-19 complications in Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A child under the age of 5 has died from COVID-19 complications in a Chattanooga hospital.

The child did have underlying health problems.

“It is our deepest regret to share with you today our first COVID-19-related pediatric death,” says Health Department Administrator Becky Barnes, “As we mourn with the family, we also take this opportunity to urgently plead with each member of our community to practice social distancing by staying at home and take precautions to protect yourselves.”

The Health Department knows of two other pediatric cases now.

One is isolated at home with symptoms.

The other has recovered but remains at home.

Hamilton County has 51 positive case so far.

231 are quarantined, 29 have recovered and 4 people have died.
