Flash Flooding is Expected to Hit Tennessee Valley With Coming Tropical Storm

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Flash Flooding is expected to threaten the Tennessee Valley this weekend.

What’s left of Tropical Storm Cindy should hit the Tennessee Valley Friday and Saturday.

News 12 meteorologist Christina Reuille expects to see about two to three inches of rain.

“We have checked the levels of Chickamauga lake just to make sure that those levels are low enough to sustain two or three inches of rain and we’re good with that.”

Immediate flash flooding can happen in a matter of seconds.

“And the problem is that these ditches and creeks and manholes cannot sustain that amount of water that quickly so it has nowhere to go but to find another area.”

Visibility will be low making driving difficult making accidents a serious concern.

“People motorists don’t take under consideration that your vehicle can be out of control within two inches of water.”

Hamilton County officials urge you to stay home if possible.

“Be in constant communication with our local media outlets they’re the best form of communication for weather letting you know exactly how much rain we’re going to get and when and abouts it’ll be here.”
