Fleischmann discusses One Big Beautiful Bill Act

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Early Thursday morning, the House of Representatives passed a new budget bill.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed by a single vote.

All but two Republicans were in favor, and every Democrat voted against.

House Republicans say that the bill will lower the taxes of most Americans, including eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay.

However, there has been criticism levied at the bill over proposed cuts to Medicaid.

Representative Chuck Fleischmann says that is an oversimplification of the bill, saying they are trying to make government more efficient.

“Medicare is totally safe, uncut. For medicaid, we are attacking waste fraud, and abuse. That system, which costs a lot of money, has been abused by some people for years, so we are going to target to get rid of waste, fraud, and abuse, but ultimately that program will be protected in this bill,” Rep. Fleischmann said.

The bill will head off to the Senate as they begin working through their budgeting process.
