Flooding in Tn. and Ga.

Dalton, Ga. (WDEF)- Submerged roads are not uncommon in Hamilton County.

“We’ve got certain areas that flood on a regular basis when we get this kind of rain.”

News 12’s newsroom received close to two dozen reports of flooding in Hamilton County.

Chattanooga Fire’s Battalion Chief Chris Warren urges drivers to not cross high waters.

It can prevent first responders from handling other emergencies and it puts them in harms way.

“It’s very frustrating. It’s also dangerous to our personnel because when you walk in flood waters you don’t know what’s in flood waters.”

In Dalton Georgia, some drivers took that chance anyway.

“It seems like every time we have something like this, people, especially with trucks or SUV’s think they can get across” said spokesperson for the city of Dalton Bruce Frazier. “You really can’t tell how deep the water is in an event like. We always have people that seems to get stuck and maybe even need to get rescued.”

Frazier says more flooding is possible over the next 48 hours.

“The biggest thing right now is that the water table in Dalton has not reset from the heavy rains we had last Thursday and over the weekend” said Frazier. “So it might take a little bit longer for it to dry out this time.”
