Florida Man accused of setting fire in Walgreens in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A man from Florida is accused of setting a fire in the Walgreens on Gunbarrel Christmas morning.
Chattanooga Police say they responded around 7:00 am for a report of a fire.
When they arrived, they spoke with the manager who says that the sprinkler system started going off in the men’s bathroom, but when they tried to open the door, it was locked from the inside.
The fire department responded as well and forced their way in. Police say that’s when they found Jeffery Cotton was also trying to hold the door closed as well.
According to the arrest report, Cotton was then detained and police questioned him about what happened.
The report says that he told them that people were after him and he had locked him self in the bathroom and set the fire in the garbage can so that the fire department would come save him.
Cotton was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Arson.
He is set to appear before a judge Friday at 8:30 am.
His bond is set at $100,000.
