Food City recognized as Southeast Retailer of the Year

St. Elmo, Tenn. (WDEF) – Food City celebrated some special recognition on Friday. The grocery chain has been named Southeast Retailer of the Year.

Leaders of the company were at the St. Elmo Food City store this morning to acknowledge the honor.

The Shelby Report, a respected supermarket publication, cited Food City for meeting a range of criteria.

That includes community service and serving the ever-changing consumer needs.

Ron Johnson is the publisher of the Shelby Report. He says, “It’s richly deserved for the growth they’ve had, the acquisition of the stores they’ve made—some 29-30 stores, so its a big deal for them, and its a big deal for the competitive landscape in the south.”

Steve Smith, President and CEO of Food City, says, “Its something we humbly accept on behalf of our 16,000 people. It reflects the hard work and the commitment they give every day to their customers.”

The “Shelby Report Southeast” is based in Gainesville, Georgia.
