RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF)- Former Georgia Senator David Perdue is visiting Catoosa County today, April 14, in a stop on the campaign trail for the Republican nomination in the Georgia governor’s race.Perdue will visit the Farm and Fork Restaurant located at 120 General Lee Drive in Ringgold. He will host a meet and greet session with voters at 2:30 PM that is open to the public.

He is currently in an intense Republican primary with the incumbent governor Brian Kemp, whom Perdue has criticized for his handling of the 2020 Presidential Election. The criticisms stem from then sitting President Donald Trump believed there was voting fraud in the battleground state that cost him 16 electoral votes.

Trump has endorsed Perdue in this race, who has participated in rallies across the state with Perdue in an attempt to oust the sitting governor.

Perdue was the sitting United States Senator for Georgia from 2015 to 2021 and lost his seat in a narrow election loss last year to current Georgia senator Jon Ossoff.

The Republican primary will be held on May 24, and any necessary runoffs will be held on June 21. The winner of the primary is expected to face Democrat Stacey Abrams, who narrowly lost the 2018 gubernatorial race but was instrumental in the Democratic upset victories of President Joe Biden and Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in the 2020 election cycle due to her voter turnout efforts.
