Former Mocs All-American Center Chris Cook Joins UTC Football Coaching Staff
(gomocs.com) University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach Tom Arth announced that Chris Cook was offered and has accepted a position on the Mocs’ coaching staff today. Cook joins the program as the tackles and tight ends coach.
Cook is a UTC alum who was an All-American center for the Mocs in 2002. He just finished his second year as the offensive quality control coordinator at East Carolina.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chris back to UTC and to welcome his wife Mandisa, and their two children, Mayor and Paige to our family in Chattanooga,” stated Arth. “Chris has shared with our staff the ways in which UTC has shaped his life and we know how special this opportunity is for him to return to his alma-mater.
“From the moment we met Chris we knew there was something really special about him. He is a very passionate and intelligent football coach with a contagious personality and as a former student-athlete and All-American player at UTC Chris will be able impact our program and our players in so many meaningful ways.”
In 2015, Cook served as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for Independence High School in Charlotte, where he helped the Patriots to an 8-5 record and a second round NCHSAA playoff appearance. His defensive unit held opposing offenses to seven points or less six times in 2015, including two shutouts.
Cook co-founded the Gamechangers Football Academy – located in Charlotte – in 2008 with the goal of developing community youth on academics, personal conduct, and sportsmanship. As a coach, Cook delivered speeches to reinforce the value of high standards for personal behavior on and off the field. He also had oversight of summer camps for older elementary and middle school students, and conducted testing of high school athletes in preparation for college recruiting.
Cook graduated from UTC in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. Prior to completing his degree, Cook pursued a professional football career, attending workouts with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts.
