Former Stevenson Police Chief sentenced to 27 months

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama (WDEF) A Federal Judge sentenced Police Chief Daniel Winters to 27 months in prison on Tuesday.

The former chief of Stevenson, Alabama was convicted last summer of assault and excessive force.

Prosecutors say he beat a man he suspected of stealing a grandfather clock from a local funeral home owned by a friend.

The jury took just an hour to convict him.

Winters faced up to ten years in prison, but he got 2 years and 3 months instead.
