Fort Payne Crash Leaves One Dead, Others Injured

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WDEF) — A Fort Payne man has died from injuries he received in a car accident on Sunday, the Fort Payne Police Department said.

The Fort Payne Police Department sent out a press release on Tuesday revealing the details of the accident.

The accident took place at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 15th, police said.

They said the incident occurred on I-59 near Lebanon Road in Fort Payne, Alabama.

Police say Francisco Felipe Juan, 23, struck a cable barrier before crashing into another vehicle. This vehicle was driven by Sybil Duncan, 43, of Etowah, Tennessee.

Juan had two passengers in his vehicle, Alex Randy Marroquin and Gavin Diego Francisco.

Juan and Duncan were airlifted to Erlanger Hospital.

Marroquin was taken by ambulance to DeKalb Regional Medical Center. Francisco was taken by ambulance to Erlanger.

Francisco passed away from his injuries.

As of Tuesday, Juan and Duncan were still in the hospital.

Juan was driving a 2012 Infinity G37 at the time of the accident. Duncan was driving a 2022 KIA Rio.

The police department says the accident is still under investigation.
