Foster Home Fire in Fort Olgethorpe

Fort Olgethorpe, GA (WDEF) A fire damaged a foster home in Fort Oglethorpe Tuesday.

It was on Terrace Drive behind the Lane Funeral Home.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story building.

Two teens were inside, but they made it out safely.

Deputy Chief Woody Linder with the Walker County Fire Department says, "They were alerted by the smoke detector, so always make sure you’ve got your smoke detectors. They paid off in this instance."

A mailman also stopped to help make sure the teens got out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it may have started in the laundry room.
