Four Shootings on Sunday

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – Another weekend– 4 more shootings in Chattanooga on Sunday. Three people were hurt, and one was killed.

But that man’s deeds will not go unnoticed.

Forty year old Johnny Sanders worked as a bouncer here at Bella Vita Restaurant on Cowart Street in south Chattanooga.

Right after 2 a.m. Sunday morning Sanders stopped a fight and removed a man from the building. Investigators believe the suspect, 41 year old Andrew Wilson, Jr. went to his car and got a weapon. They say he returned and shot Sanders.

Police arrived and took him into custody.

Johnny Sanders was a Marine who served in the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict.

“Then come home and you’re gunned down at home…that’s come from a country that they don’t care..and you come over here..and 9 times out of ten, he probably knew that guy,” says Cassandra Tucker.

Johnny Sanders lived next door to Cassandra Tucker and her 11-year old son Kyron Suttle.

Cassandra says Johnny became a friend to her son.

“He took Kyron to the side and he really talked to him about the advantages of having a two parent household ..and that he needed to really change some of his decision making.

Kyron  looked up to Johnny, “More of a mentor than a big brother.”

When asked, “what kind of stuff did he help you with?” Kyron said, “He talked to me about life…just life.”

Cassandra says her son spent more time with the ex-marine that she did, and says, “He’ll be missed— he’ll be greatly missed.”

A Go-Fund-Me account has been set up to he pay for Johnny Sanders funeral expenses.

Andrew Wilson is being held without bond on a charge of criminal homicide.

Also, this weekend, a few hours after the death of Sanders, someone opened fire on a home on 15th Avenue.

42-year old Stacie Carter told Chattanooga Police she was in her bed sleeping when she was shot just before 7:00 AM.

There were two other shooting incidents on that violent Sunday.

At 8 o’clock last night 20-year-old Casey Carter suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the 12-hundred block of Tunnel Boulevard. He managed to make it to the hospital on his own.
