We combine 3 stories from February of 1992 about 3 people in our spotlight that month
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – We couldn’t pick just one star for you in tonight’s Thursday Throwback.
So we came up with three.
Our stars come from the fields of music, politics and the Winter Olympics 30 years ago.
And they were all on our minds in February of 1992.
One was Olympic skater Christopher Bowman.
His father was born in Chattanooga, so he had a living room full of relatives rooting for him in the Winter Olympics.
Bowman finished in 4th place, just missing a medal.
It was the last Olympics for “Bowman the Showman.”
Sadly, he battled drug addiction for years and would died form an overdose at the age of 40.
In February of 1992, Howard students got to meet a national music star.
Rapper Big Daddy Came visited the school with a message for students.
This was the year he was getting into acting for the first time.
In the next year, he appeared in the movies “Posse” and “Meteor Man.”
Then we take you to Ellijay for some barbecue and politics.
Presidential Candidate Pat Buchanan brought his Super Tuesday campaign to the northwest Georgia town.
He didn’t win the election, but he sure put a scare in President George Bush.
We’ve combined highlights from each of those stories in tonight’s report.
