Fundraiser for Keoshia Ford

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) –The mother of Keoshia Ford needs help with burial expenses.

Keoshia is the young girl who was left in a partial coma after a gang shooting four years ago.

Now, the family needs help after the 17-year old girl died last week.

Family members of Keoshia Ford stood along Brainerd Road collecting money to help pay for her burial.

“It’s been hard because she didn’t have insurance and it’s kind of hard when you don’t have insurance and you have to do a lot of fundraiser and stuff to come up with the money”, said Keshia Matthews, the mother of Ford.

Ford died in her sleep last week, but she was bedridden for the last few years, battling injuries from a gang-related shooting back in 2012.

Community members and friends are making donations to help the support the family and make sure Keoshia is soon laid to rest.

“I knew her from when she was young. I just wanted to be here for the family. I know they did everything they could to take care of her and they deserve the best for her”, Dozier.

Matthews said it’s been difficult losing Keoshia.

“I miss her so much. It’s like i miss her smile, i miss going into her room and talking to her. I just miss everything we used to do. It’s been real, real rough.”

Ms. Matthews said she is grateful for the support she and her family have been receiving.

“People have hearts and it feels like love when you just come out and help one another when you need you know somebody that is need and to be helped.”

The family said it will take about 6-thousand dollars to bury Keoshia.

They have already raised half of that.

If you’re interested in helping out you can make donations to John P. Franklin Funeral Home or to the family’s GoFundMe page.
