Game Week Finally Arrives For Tennessee
The Vols have been focused on practice for the last month.
Now they can finally focus on a game.
Tennessee turns their attention to West Virginia for Saturday’s season opener.
When the calendar flips to game week, it feels ‘aight’ for Coach Pruitt.
Said head coach Jeremy Pruitt:”My dad was a high school coach. I was just a manager on his team, but I can remember the excitement and anxiety the first week of the season.”
Wasn’t much excitement for the Vols last year posting a 4-8 record.
Said Pruitt:”It really doesn’t matter what has been done in the past anywhere. You kind of hit the reset button each year, and what you put on the field as a coach is really who you are right now.”
Reporter:”What signs have you seen that this will be a much improved team over a year ago?”
Said receiver Marquez Callaway:”The way we approach things. I feel like we approach them a lot more seriously and that we are ready for it.”
And Pruitt put on his serious face when asked about the starting quarterback.
Reporter:”Do you know your starting quarterback? Does he know or not. When do you want that conversation to take place?”
Said Pruitt:”Well I think with all the positions that we have. We still have competition. The best teams that I have ever been apart of. There has been lots of guys that didn’t even play in the first game that might have been the MVP of the last game.”
Reporter:”You have eleven newcomers or true freshmen in the two-deep. Is that about what you expected when you talked about this team coming out of spring practice.”
Said Pruitt:”Well I don’t know that we could predict exactly how it would turn out. And moving forward we can’t predict how these guys will play Saturday.”
Hard to predict Saturday’s final, but 17th ranked West Virginia is favored by ten points.
Said tight end Eli Wolf:”It’s exciting. It’s a good challenge. It’s a good way tell-tale how we have done this whole off-season.”
The Vols and Mountaineers kick at 3:30pm from Charlotte, and you can view the game on News 12 Now.
