Gatlinburg detective pleaded not guilty to aggravated perjury

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) – Detective Rodney Burns pleaded not guilty to aggravated perjury by a written waiver. His case will continue August 24.

That’s according to our sister stating in Knoxville, WVLT.

Burns is the Gatlinburg Police detective who originally responded to a rape case involving Ooltewah High School students. He testified in Hamilton County Juvenile Court that the assault wasn’t sexual in nature and referred to the attack as, “something stupid that kids do.”

Burns was charged with perjury after the district attorney claimed what Burns said in court is different than what he included in an incident report.
