GBI investigate police shooting in Cartersville

Police say a wanted suspect ran into an officer with his SUV so they fired at him

CARTERSVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Cartersville early Friday morning.

The incident happened just after midnight in a business parking lot downtown.

The GBI preliminary report says Cartersville Police responded to a vehicle that they though contained a wanted felon from Bartow County.

They say as they approached the man, he reversed his SUV and drove at the officers.

They say he hit one officer with the front of his vehicle.

Two officers fired into the SUV and the engine caught on fire.

Police put out the flames and arrested the suspect who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer who was hit by the SUV did not report any injuries.

This makes the 12th officer involved shooting that the GBI has investigated this year.
