CALHOUN, Ga. (WDEF) — The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting that took place on Thursday. Calhoun police shot a man who broke into a local business and was armed.
GBI says the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Around 2 a.m., police noticed a vehicle was parked in front of the Battlefield Building Supply on U.S. Highway 41 in Calhoun, Georgia.
Calhoun police said the front glass door was smashed in, and the front door was open.
Multiple Calhoun and Gordon County officers responded to the break-in.
Upon entering, police found a man armed with a gun in the office area.
Police said they gave the man verbal commands to drop the weapon. He then pointed the rifle at the officers, according to the GBI.
At this time, Calhoun police shot the man.
Shortly after, the GBI was asked to investigate. Once the investigation is finished, the case will be given to the Gordon County District Attorney’s Office for review.
