UPDATE: Former Chickamauga Police officer appears in court
WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – This afternoon former Chickamauga Police Officer Pat Wooten appeared in court and was charged in his son’s death
During the hearing, the judge read Wooten his rights and the charges against him.Walker County Public Defender, David Dunn said Wooten does qualify and will be appointed an attorney.
According to police reports, on Saturday, around noon, police were called to Wooten’s home.
They say Wooten shot and killed his 30-year old son Lance Wooten in the chest, who later died at the scene.
Public records show over a dozen different domestic violence related incidents from the home. They range from battery, criminal trespass and DUI offenses.
Wooten is currently at the Catoosa County jail waiting for a bond hearing to be set.

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (WDEF) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released more information on the shooting in Chickamauga.
A former Chickamauga Police officer and current Walker County Detention officer is behind bars tonight, and facing a murder charge for death of his son.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Chickamauga Police department got a 911 call at 11:54 Saturday morning saying someone had been shot in the chest at a home on Hood Avenue.
Officers identified the victim as 30-year-old Lance Wooten who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The GBI says Wooten’s father, 58-year-old Pat Wooten, has been charged with one count of malice murder, and is being held at the Catoosa County Jail.
Authorities say Pat Wooten is a former Chickamauga police officer, and is currently employed as a Walker County detention officer.
They say Pat Wooten lived at the home on Hood Avenue.
CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (WDEF) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting in Chickamauga.
According to the GBI, the Chickamauga Police were called to Hood Avenue after a receiving a 911 call that a person had been shot in the chest.
The Chickamauga Police Department requested the GBI conduct to the death investigation.
