Georgia School Board member turned over to Whitfield County on credit card fraud

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A Gordon County school board member is heading to a jail cell in Dalton.

44 year old Ricky E. Smith has been turned over to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Department to answer to several credit card fraud charges.

Smith was arrested in Gordon County on Monday over the theft of cash and credit cards from a home in the Red Bud community.

A resident reported that the items were taken from her purse at home.

Then the credit cards were used at several businesses in Dalton later in the day.

Investigators identified Smith from surveillance cameras at the stores.

He faces charges of financial transaction card theft, financial identify fraud and theft by taking.
