Get Vaccinated Chattanooga continues vaccine push in some less vaccinated communities

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- More than 54 percent of Hamilton County is partially vaccinated.

But, some zip codes in Chattanooga are struggling more than others.

From block parties to $100 give aways, the Get Vaccinated Chattanooga team has been working hard to get people in the city to get the shot.

Specifically, areas like East Lake that only have 13% of residents vaccinated.

News 12 asked, “Now that the Get Vaccinated Chattanooga Block Party portion of your campaign is over, how do you plan on reaching some of those communities that are struggling with getting the vaccine?”
Dwayne Marshall, Leader of the Get Vaccinated Coalition, says, “We plan to continue to provide education through our virtual forums, social media and other methods just to ensure that the process of the pandemic is evolving. We are still there to listen as well as to answer.”

While East Lake only has 13%, the Southside Historic District, zip code 37408, has more than 80% of residents vaccinated.

The city of Chattanooga says that any progress is good progress.

Dr. Mary Lambert, Director of Community Health for the city of Chattanooga, says, “We are making inroads. It’s just slow but, we are still making progress. We believe that even if we only have one or two or three vaccinations, that’s one or two or three more than we had before and we have to continue to make that progress.

Even though the Get Vaccinated team has completed all of their summer block parties, they plan to continue educating the community on the importance of getting the shot.
