Gordon Lee Baseball Team Seeking Back-to-Back State Titles

Chickamauga, GA-(WDEF-TV) The Gordon Lee baseball team ended a long state championship drought last season, and now they’ve got a shot at back-to-back state titles.
The Trojans return to Savannah on Monday to play in the public school class A state finals.      Gordon Lee added their first state title in 34 years last season, and the guys were happy to get it for head coach Mike Dunfee.
Said catcher Chris Potter:”Last year our motto big-time with the seniors and juniors especially was we are doing this for Coach Dunfee. He has been here for seven strong years. Had great seasons. Outstanding seasons. He’s just one of the best coaches around here. He has come so close so many times. We were really doing it for him. It was all for him. Just finally getting him that ring was the best feeling every.”
Said Dunfee:”I was excited for the kids, the families, the parents, the community, and everything. But I was after about 30-seconds, I was mad. I was mad because it was over. They finally started playing good ball, and I was enjoying it. I was having fun. I was like when is the next game?
Dunfee can’t be mad this season.
The Trojans are barreling back to title game with a 30-4 record.
Said Dunfee:”All year long our motto has been no flinch. Anything that has happened. It’s fun to see they’re just calm and cool, and they don’t get to high, and they don’t get too low. They just keep playing the game.”
Said third baseman Hunter Hodson:”One through nine I feel great about the lineup. I know everyone can hit. It’s a really good team.”
Said Potter:”Whenever the region tournament rolled around, we kicked it into high gear. The weather started heating up, and so did our bats. That’s another one of our mottos. As soon as it gets hot out here, our bats just light up with fire.”
The Trojans will once again battle for the state crown at historic Grayson Stadium in Savannah.
Said Hodson:”It’s a really nice place. The locker rooms are cool. The whole atmosphere was really cool. I’m glad to be going back.”
Said Potter:”We have a lot of good mojo down there. A lot of good feelings coming back for us going down to Savannah. We really just want to win another one. So I think it’s an even better feeling this year getting to go back again.”

Gordon Lee will play Schley Co on Monday in Savannah.
