Gordon Lee Softball Team Back in State Tournament For 15th Straight Year
Chickamauga, GA-(WDEF) The Gordon Lee softball team will chase yet another state title this week.
Going to Columbus for the state tournament has become an annual tradition for the Lady Trojans.
Talk about a shining program, Gordon Lee is back in the state tournament for the 15th year in-a-row.
Said catcher Katherine Grace McElhaney:”And knowing that it has been 15 years running. I was two-years-old, and so it’s crazy.”
Reporter:”That is crazy.”
Laughs McElhaney:”It’s very crazy.”
Said center fielder Gracey Kruse:”It is hard to put into words. Yes it is. I haven’t been hear all 15 years. I have been here four, but I know what it feels like, and what it feels like to keep the legacy going.”
Dana Mull has been the head coach for the entire 15 year run.
Reporter:”What kind of got it started do you think?”
Said Mull:”They had a very good foundation when I came here. Had some good pitching and some good talent. I think they were ready to step their game up to another level, and they were able to do that.”
The Lady Trojans have won seven state titles during this run and plenty of swag.
Said McElhaney:”At the tournament once you win, you get a T-shirt, and you get a medal, and a visor, and those are like great keep sakes. Then we order a ring, and we get a banner up in the gym. It’s amazing.”
Imagine the confidence that comes from all that state tournament experience.
Said McElhaney:”We’re all still very excited every year for Columbus, but it’s a different mentality for us.”
Said Mull:”They’re there for business. They want to take care of things. That’s one thing I don’t typically have to worry about is them being focused. The experience of being there before also plays a big part in them being ready.”
