Gov. Lee signs adult cabaret bill into law
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — Governor Bill Lee signed legislation into law Thursday. The controversial bill, commonly known as the “drag queen bill,” will go into effect July 1.
Tennessee Senate Bill 0003 makes public adult cabaret performances illegal.
Tennessee Senator Jack Johnson says the bill addresses “sexually suggestive drag shows” that are inappropriate for children.
Those in opposition of the new legislation believe it targets the LGBTQ+ community. But those who sponsor the bill say that is not their intention.
The legislation prohibits sexualized performances from taking place in public. The bill defines any public place as one being exposed to children.
