Group plans to make Chattanooga park inclusive
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Changes are in the works to make a Chattanooga park inclusive for everyone.
Organizers with a group in Chattanooga say there needs to be a park for children who are differently abled.
Harvesting Inclusive Play plans to make changes to Jack Benson Heritage Park so that all kids can enjoy the area.
Organizers say it would be a new 15 thousand square foot space, universally inclusive, and the playground would have a ramp up to the top.
The group is raising money to make this project possible. Their goal is to raise it within a year, with construction starting in Fall of 2020.
“It is one of those things I tell people, until you lived it, you don’t get it. It is not just something people think about. When you think about how good mulch is for children if they fall or get things like that, to be able to run and play. But when you think about someone in a wheelchair,” said Skyler Phillips, with Harvesting Inclusive Play.
They are working with the city to provide new restrooms and parking.
