Grundy County School Board rejects meeting agenda

GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Grundy County School Board members were slated to vote on whether or not to end the contract for their director of schools, but that did not happen.

On Monday, school board members rejected the agenda, so the meeting was adjourned. This left community members feeling annoyed.  Not only did they want the school board to vote on the contract for the Director of Schools, but they also wanted to speak out and show their support for her.

It was a sea of purple Monday night in the Grundy County High School cafeteria. People were showing their support for Director of Schools, Jessie Kinsey.

“We are here because we are strongly supporting our Director of Schools, superintendent, and we are here rallying for her in the purple. We are here hoping to keep her. She hasn’t done anything wrong and we are just here to support her,” said Tonya Lane, a parent.

The school board held a special meeting where they were scheduled to vote on whether or not to end Kinsey’s contract.

Before the meeting, one school board member, Greg Meeks, wanted to address the public about people’s concern about where he lives.

“I am still a resident of Grundy County. I still represent district one and will continue to do so until I move,” Meeks said.

When the meeting was set to begin, school board members voted to reject the agenda, so they were adjourned.

People were upset no decision was made and that they couldn’t voice their support for Kinsey.

“The public wanted to be heard, but we were denied,” said Margaret Thomas, a retired teacher.

They are concerned how this all could affect the tax payers.

“What bothers me is I don’t want to see us vote to get rid of our Director of Schools and then hire someone else. Because we are going to be paying the rest of her contract, plus I am sure there will be a sizeable fee,” Thomas said.

While it is unclear what the school board will do next, in the meantime parents say they stand behind Kinsey.

“She is here for the children she is not here for herself,” Lane said.

If school board members want to have another meeting to vote on the contract for Kinsey, it has to be planned 15 days in advance.
