Hamilton Co. returns back to school

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- Wednesday was the first day of school for students across Hamilton County.

Children, teachers and staff say they are ready to make this year the best one yet!

“We are so excited to have everyone back, but what we believe is going to be our best year yet,” Hamilton County Schools Superintendent, Sonia Stewart, said. “We are ready to engage students, to support our staff, and to connect with our communities as we provide pathways for growth and success.”

This time of year can be stressful but also exciting!

“I think my children are ready, but it is hectic, especially the first day because you have to make sure everything is together such as clothes, shoes, hair, especially if you got more than one. So it’s kind of hectic and kind of excited to come back to different schools.” said Tamisha Hawkins, a local parent.

Hamilton County administrators want every student to thrive and succeed.

They think they have the pathways in place to make that possible.

“We are committed to seeing every student learns by delivering quality lessons, supporting discovery learning, and believing in the capabilities of every child.” said Blake Freeman, Executive Director of Learning for Hamilton County Schools.

Meanwhile, safety remains a top concern for parents.

“Kids play around in school, and when I say that just meaning, they have times where they exchange things, and so it is just important for them to make sure that they need to wash their hands keep the germs down. We don’t want a lot of sicknesses this year so I hope that that help” said Giavonni Parker.
