Hamilton Co. Sheriff’s Office warns of local scam
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is sharing details about a local scam that could impact individuals.
They say the scam involves individuals falsely claiming to be one of their personnel.
In these scams, callers tell victims they have missed jury duty or failed to complete required legal paperwork and must immediately pay a fine, the HCSO says.
The HCSO say they will never contact you by phone to request money, demand payment of fines, or instruct you to purchase prepaid debit cards.
They say official correspondence from the HCSO or county courts is delivered only through proper legal channels, typically by mail.
They ask if you believe you have been the victim of a scam or wish to report suspicious activity, please contact the HCSO non-emergency number at 423-622-0022.
